About Mad:)Takes
|
To find out more up to date news see the Mad:)Takes Facebook Page.
Welcome to the Mad:)Takes website. Mad:)Takes, the games that started it all, are a free online ad-Lib word game similar tothe popular word game Mad Libs™ created by Roger Price and Leonard Stern. A Mad:)Take is a word game where you provide several words by type (e.g. a verb, noun, place ...) and then the words get inserted into a brief story. In their own way, Mad:)Takes are like improv or ad lib. You often end up with something silly, goofy, stupid, or downright strange. No matter what, though, you usually end up with a laugh. Go ahead and try this one:
Recently, more games were added! You can get to them via the games menu that is now located on the right of the links menu at the top of the page. Some of them are like Mad:)Takes, where new editions of each game will be released every once in a while. Others are generated randomly as you load them, so you don't have to wait for a new one to be published. As always, there's no log-on and no cost, no matter what!
This website was developed with three main goals. (1) To be fun. I think this one pretty much explains itself. (2) Compatibility. Too many games out there depend on a plug-in, or something you have to install. Nobody likes installing something off some unknown site on internet. Who knows what could happen to your computer? So I decided to program most of the games in a common medium: JavaScript. Yeap, that's right, it's that simple. (3) To be easy to use. I hate programs with cumbersome interfaces. And so, I strove to make these games as easy to use as I possibly could.
This website was developed for two reasons. (1) I like making people smile. By that I mean that I just enjoy helping others have fun. So if you are enjoying this site, if it makes you laugh, or struggle with a fun game, then the primary purpose has been acheived. If it does not, I'm sorry. I'm sure there's something else out there on the net that will please you. (2) To further my skills as a programmer. Yeah, pretty simple. It started out as a fully JavaScript/html based site on geocities. I just wanted to see what I could do with JavaScript. Now the site has its own domain, is programmed in PHP (a language I'd never used before), runs off of a MySQL database, and contains several more games.
Credit must be offered to those that have helped me see this vision come to life. The amusing (and slightly eccentric) game descriptions were written by Zeb Holland. Almost all of the graphics used on this site were created with Paint.Net. I used a mixture of UltraEdit and Eclipse to do my development on the PHP. Obviously, credit goes to the creators of the original games, on which my web versions are based; I didn't come up with any of these on my own, and I doubt that I could have. And finally, the following table provides information on my hosting and advertising services.
